‘Seeing Red’, a lecture on Mark Rothko at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, 2019.
My book, 'A History of Art in Four Colours', comes out on the 2nd August from Ilex. Based on the National Gallery collection (with a few modern interlopers), the book traces four journeys through the history of western painting using colour as a linking thread. Each colour has a fold-out section with reproductions of all of the works discussed. You can pre-order the book here. News about events around the book coming soon.
'The Shape of Time' in Vienna, and more news
There are still places left on the remaining talks for 2017. Plus: news for 2018.
Talks in public galleries and for private groups this autumn - please follow links for details.
All of the following are free talks at the National Gallery in front of paintings from the collection. The talks are accessible, enjoyable and informative (ideally).
To celebrate - maybe - last week's centenary of Marcel Duchamp's notorious 'Fountain', the BBC are replaying 'Duchamp's Urinal' on Thursday 18th May at 2.15pm. I imagine it'll be available to listen on the iPlayer around that time too.
I have a very limited number of available places coming up on a trip I'm running to Florence and Siena over the weekend of the 31st March, 1st and 2nd April.
